About

Dr. Farnoosh (Faith) Nouri is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Southern Methodist University. As the author of So Long Depression and a Certified Brainspotting Therapist and Hypnotherapist, she is deeply committed to advancing mental health. Dr. Nouri is also a Safe Conversations Leader, trained under Drs. Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt, and is certified in the Gottman Model of The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. Her extensive training and expertise include Play Therapy, EMDR, Complex Trauma Treatment, psychosomatic therapy,  Mind/Body Integration, and navigating Mental/Emotional Blockages. With over 27 years of clinical and teaching experience, Dr. Nouri brings unparalleled knowledge and expertise to her practice.

Her professional and clinical interests encompass personal and professional growth, performance optimization, pain management, anxiety and depression, relationship skills, complex trauma, and grief recovery to name a few. She employs a range of techniques, including but not limited to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, Hypnotherapy, Mind/Body Modalities, Somatic-Emotional Processing, Inner Child Work, and Existential/Spiritual navigation and exploration. With experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples, her practice benefits from a deep reservoir of expertise, experience, and knowledge. Additionally, she is a Tamarkoz® (Sufi Meditation) instructor and integrates the wellness practices of Tamarkoz®, including breathing, concentration, meditative movements, and meditation exercises, into her psychotherapy sessions.

Dr. Nouri is an international speaker and presenter and an active member of numerous professional mental health organizations and associations. Her affiliations include, but are not limited to the American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, American Psychological Association, Texas Association of Counselors and Supervisors, and the Sufi Psychology Association. In addition to her teaching experience, her research interests focus on near-death experiences. Her dissertation, which explored the electromagnetic aftereffects of these experiences, was published in the Journal of the International Association of Near-Death Studies.

Dr. Nouri earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Computer Science from Texas Woman’s University, Master of Education in Counseling and Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselor Education from the University of North Texas.

She enjoys spending time with her family, going on nature walks, and quiet moments of reflection and solitude. Her happy place is the beach!
